About us |
Yate Choral Society is a mixed choir with over 50 members formed in
1966 Chairman: Ian Cook – Who has been singing Tenor with the choir since 1979 Musical Direction – Graham
Coatman, succeeded Carol Cook who
has been singing soprano with the choir since 1983, took over as Musical
Director following the sad death of
Geoffrey Wickham in January
2023. Accompanist : Diana Williams who was born in Stoke-0n-Trent and started piano
lessons at the age of seven. She
came to live in Yate in 1984 and has been a member of the Yate Choral Society
since 1986. She became Accompanist in March 2019 following the sad death of Hazel
Wickham who had been accompanist for over 47 years Repertoire: We sing a varied programme performing at various
public concerts throughout the year and have raised several thousands of
pounds for charity during the lifetime of the choir. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings at St. Nicholas' Church,
Abbotswood, Chargrove, Yate BS37 4LG starting at 7.30p.m. Please refer to Members’ Diary page for
dates. The current subscription rate is £65 per annum but this can be paid in two
instalments on 1st April and 1st June. We
welcome new members of all ages and voices and currently have vacancies for
Tenors, Baritones and Basses. Please
click here to download a copy of the subscription form. Associate membership of the choir is also available. For a donation of £20 a year you will be
entitled to a complimentary ticket to our main concert of the year and your
generous support will be acknowledged in our concert programmes. If you wish to become an Associate

Choir is a full member of National Association of
Choirs and is registered as a Charity with the Charity Commission
– Registered Number:- 1127423. We
have been fortunate during the life of the choir to join up with choirs in
other parts of the UK and Europe for concerts. In 2007 we paid a return visit to Cornwall
to take part in a joint concert with our hosts Porthpyra Singers from
Polperro. In
2004, 2008 and 2012 we travelled to Clamecy in the Burgundy region of France
to sing with the Chorale René Rose.
